The Ares is a high-fire-rate machine gun in Valorant. It’s often used on the Defender’s side of the map because of its large magazine size which can easily delay pushes. The Ares isn’t like your typical weapon in Valorant. It has a high penetration rate, a high fire rate, and a large magazine size. This is why it’s commonly used in specific scenarios where players are looking to get the upper hand through a rain of bullets.

Unlike most weapons that get a higher recoil and wider spread when continuously fired, the Ares does the opposite. The longer you fire the weapon, the more accurate it gets. This makes it the only weapon in the game that you’ll mostly want to continue firing with instead of resetting your aim.

The Ares is also a cheap weapon at 1,600 credits, the exact same price as the Spectre. It also makes for a better weapon at range and can be better on the Defending side. Of course, the Spectre will still overpower it in close-range battles, mostly because of its mobility advantage over it.

The Basic Stats

The Ares has a headshot multiplier of x2.4 and a leg shot multiplier of x0.85. It also has a 30m+ damage falloff multiplier of x0.933.

The Best Ways to Use the Ares

As we’ve previously mentioned, the Ares shines when used on the Defender’s side of the map. It works great as a way to oppress Attackers and push them back through the sheer number of bullets.

It also works extremely well on wallbang spots, especially if you have scanning Agents like a Fade or Sova on your team.

For most medium to long-range battles, you’re better off using the ADS at all times. It doesn’t lower your fire rate but gives you a zoom and a lower recoil and spread. However, in close range, run and gun is probably your best bet. It’s not a powerful close-range weapon to begin with, so you might as well take your chances.
